World Food Day today

Sunday, 16 October 2011

The World Food Day (WFD) will be observed in the country as elsewhere in the globe today (Sunday) with the theme "Food Prices - From Crisis to Stability,"reports UNB. The theme has been chosen to shed some light on rising food prices and what can be done to mitigate its impact on the most vulnerable. This celebration also continues to mark the fact that 963 million people go hungry everyday and if the current trend continues, more than 1.5 billion people will be undernourished by 2015. The World Food Day (WFD) was launched in November, 1979, by Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) member countries in its 20th General Conference. The World Food Day will step into its 31st year on Sunday although eliminating hunger from the world is still a forlorn hope.
