World Indigenous People's Day observed

The International Day of the World's Indigenous People was observed Saturday in the country as elsewhere around the globe with a fresh vow to safeguard the rights of ethnic minorities, reports UNB.
United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon delivered a message on the occasion urging the member states, indigenous people, the UN system and all relevant actors to take immediate steps to protect and promote endangered languages, and to ensure the safe passage of this shared heritage to future generations.
Marking the day, the Bangladesh Indigenous People's Forum organised a daylong programme that included holding of a rally at the Central Shaheed Minar, discussion, exhibition and cultural show in the evening.
Different programmes including cultural functions, rallies, films shows, photography exhibitions and discussions were also held in the capital and other parts of the country.
