World Literacy Day observed in dists

TANGAIL Sept 8: International Literacy Day was observed in Tangail Tuesday in a befitting manner as elsewhere in the country with the slogan "Shakkharata o dhakkhata tekshoy somajer mul katha".
To observe the day Tangail District administration organised different programmes such as, discussion meeting, essay competition and a rally. A colourful rally was brought out from local Shaheed Smreety Pouru Uddyan and which paraded through the main streets of the town.
A discussion was held at local Bhashani Auditorium in the morning. Deputy Commissioner (acting) of Tangail Md. Lal Hossain was present as the chief guest and ADC general Md. Anower Hossain, upazila chairman Advocate Khorshed Alom and district senior information officer Kazi Golam Ahad were present as special guests in the meeting.
A BSS report from Faridpur adds: International Literacy Day-2015 was observed here today in a befitting manner through holding rally and seminar.
A colourful rally participated by students, teachers, officials and NGO- men was brought out in the morning which paraded through the main streets of the town.
The rally was followed by a discussion on "Literacy and Sustainable Societies" held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Faridpur.
ADC (Gen) of Faridpur Md. Abdur Rashid chaired the meeting addressed among others by NGO personnel Azharul Islam, Jahangir Alam, Fazlul Hadi Sabbir, Nazma Begum, District Education Officer Parimol Chandra Mondol and Kaijuri Union chairman Khondoker Iftekhar Mohammad Iku.
Another BSS report from Narayanganj says: Speakers at a discussion here Tuesday stressed on the need for intensifying mass awareness among people about the literacy campaign to make the nation free from the curse of illiteracy.
The present government has taken up pragmatic measures to turn the huge population into human resources by eradicating illiteracy, they added.
Marking the "International Literacy Day-2015," Narayanganj district administration and Bureau of Non-formal Education jointly organised a discussion meeting at Chasahra Shaheed Zia hall premises this morning.
This year's theme is "Literacy for Sustainable Development".
Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman Mia, the discussion was addressed by ADC (General) Gausul Azam, ADC (Rev) Siddiqur Rahman, ADC (Education) Shahin Ara Begum, Assistant Director Bureau of Non-formal education Narayanganj Md. Khaled and Vice-President of Narayanganj Sadar Upzela Fatema Monir.
