World mourns along with Pakistan

Wednesday, 17 December 2014

The world, along with Pakistan have mourned the death of about 150 people, mostly students, in a deadly attack carried out by Taliban on a military-run educational institution in North West Frontier Province bordering Afghanistan. Pakistan announced a three-day national mourning on Tuesday night as the world united in revulsion. The national mourning began in the South Asian country at 6:00am on Wednesday. Taliban insurgents stormed the army-run school in Peshawar, the capita of the northwestern province on Tuesday. Taliban gunmen systematically went from room to room, shooting children during an 8-hour killing spree, leaving about 150 children and nine school staff dead in the country’s deadliest ever terror attack. The attack, claimed by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as revenge for a major military offensive in the region, sparked condemnation worldwide. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced three-day national mourning and described the attack as a ‘national tragedy’. Leaders in Europe, Asia and other continents echoed the condemnation. Narendra Modi, the prime minister of Pakistan’s neighbour and bitter rival India, said he had called Sharif to offer condolences. ‘I told PM Sharif we are ready to provide all assistance during this hour of grief,’ Modi tweeted. Australian Prime Minister Tony Abott strongly condemned the massacre of innocent children, report agencies.
