WASHINGTON, May 6 (Commodity Online): World fibre consumption has been steadily going up with per capita use moving up from 3.7 kilogram in 1950 to 10.4 kilogram in 2008, according to World Apparel Fibre Consumption Survey 2005-08.
The economic recession affected the global consumption of fibres with 2008 per-capita consumption trailing 2007 figures of 11.1 kilograms.
The survey was carried out by United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC).
The survey points out developing nations led the consumption growth: compared with 2004, per capita consumption in 2007 of developing countries increased by about 20 per cent.
