World Population Day observed

The 'World Population Day 2007' was observed in the country Wednesday as elsewhere around the world with a clarion call for men to become partners for positive change at their respective stages.
The theme of the day this year is 'participation of men, development of maternal health'.
Marking the day, the Department of Population Sciences of Dhaka University brought out a colourful rally on the campus in association with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
DU Vice-Chancellor SMA Faiz, department director AKM Nur-un-Nabi and chairman Tahmina Gafur and UNFPA representatives in Bangladesh, among others, attended the rally.
A discussion and a debate competition on population affairs were also held at TSC auditorium of the university on the occasion.
In observance of the day, United Nations Association of Bangladesh (UNAB) organised a discussion on 'men as partners for maternal health' at Scout Bhaban in the city.
President Iajuddin Ahmed, Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed and Health and Family Welfare Adviser ASM Motiur Rahman issued separate messages on the occasion.
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon also issued a message calling upon all to inspire men to become partners and agents for change, supporting human rights and safe motherhood in every probable way.
