World Press Freedom Day today

Bangladesh will observe the World Press Freedom Day today (Saturday), as elsewhere in other countries of the world through various programmes, reports BSS.
As part of the observance of the day, a discussion meeting will be held at the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) auditorium in the city Saturday at 12:00 noon.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu will be the chief guest at the discussion.
Prime Minister's Information Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and Dr Shakawat Ali will be the special guests at the discussion to be chaired by Information Secretary Mortuza Ahmed.
Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist (BFUJ) will also organise a roundtable at the National Press Club at 10.30am marking the day.
Established by the General Assembly of the United Nations in December 1993, World Press Freedom Day is annually observed on May 3 to inform the international community that freedom of the press and freedom of expression are fundamental human rights.
This day reminds and allows individuals, communities and organisations to commemorate the sacrifices of the journalists who lost their lives to establish the truth to the people.
