The World Tuberculosis (TB) Day will be observed in the country today (Monday) as elsewhere across the globe.
On the occasion, the National Tuberculosis Control Programme (NTCP), the World Health Organisation (WHO), BRAC and other organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes, including rally, TV talk show, discussion, video show, folk musical programme, drama and workshop.
A rally will be brought out in the city from the National Museum to the National Press Club at 7:00am and a seminar on 'I'll also participate in Prevention of TB' will also be held at the National Press Club later.
Organisers announced the programmes at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) in the city Sunday.
Probal Chandra Barua, director of Leprosy and TB Coordinator Committee, Abdul Hamid, country director, Touhidul Islam, National Professional Officer (TB), WHO, M Anwarul Haq, director of BRAC, Md Elihas Khan, general secretary of Dhaka Reporters' Unity, among others, were present at the press conference.
Speaking on the occasion, they said it is essential to eliminate TB, which is a preventable and curable disease.
A total of 102,785 new smear-positive TB cases were detected during the reporting period of July 2006-June 2007.
