Bangladesh will observe World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD)-2011 today (Tuesday) to make the rural communities aware about use of ICTs. This year WTISD highlights the theme "Better Life in Rural Communities with Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs)". President M Zillur Rahman will inaugurate a three-day programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre to mark the occasion. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is organising the programme in response to the call of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the UN agency for Information and Communication Technologies. BTRC Director General (Licensing and Legal Division) AKM Shahiduzzaman told the FE that they have taken preparations to celebrate the WTISD. A road show from BICC to National Press Club has also been arranged, he said.
