World Water Day observed in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, Apr 6: The World Water Day 2009 was observed in Faridpur as elsewhere in the country recently. This year's theme was: shared water shared opportunities.
Different organisations chalked out programmes highlighting the significance of the day's programmes included seminar, symposium, rally, human chain and cultural function.
To mark the day, Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), NGO Forum for Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation, World Heath Organisation, UNICEF, WSP and UNIC Dhaka in cooperation with the district administration jointly organised a symposium on the World Water Day Inter-country River Basin, safe water and sanitation situation at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room here.
ATM Nasir Mia, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gen), was chief guest, while Md Abdul Wahab Bhuiyan, ADC (Education and Development), and Dr Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Director of Health and Family Planning were special guest at the function chaired by SM Wahidul Islam, Executive Engineer of DPHE. Assistant Engineer of DPHE Md. Abdur Rahman Khan presented a paper at the symposium.
A good number of educationists, journalists, government and non-government officers, NGO officers, civil society leaders and elite of the town took part in it.
Earlier, Faisal M. Rahman, Regional Manager of Faridpur NGO Forum, gave an address of welcome.
The chief guest said that water is of great importance in our life. He emphasised the need for fair management of water and awareness about sanitation.
The symposium was preceded by a painting competition and followed by a drama staged in the Kabi Jasimuddin Hall.
