Worm Control Week opens in Khulna

KHULNA, May 3: National Worm Control Week-2011 is being observed here under the auspices of Khulna City Corporation. Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque inaugurated the week by taking anti-worm tablet at city's SOS Shishu Polli premises this morning at a simple function as chief guest. The function presided over by Professor Runu Reza Ward Councilor No.-24 and addressed among others by Panel Mayor-3 Ruma Khatun, Deputy Director Health Khulna Molla Harun-or-Rashid, and district Immunization officer Dr. Bikash Chandra Roy, Chief Health officer of KCC Dr. ABM Mahbubul Haq, medical officer Swapon Kumar Halder and project director of SOS Shishu Polli SM Lutfar Rahman. The chief guest said that the commitment of the present government is health for all. For this reason, top priority is given to protect the child health and to turn human resources of the children for ensuring good health. He also sought cooperation from all walks of life to make the week a success. Anti worm tablet would be given among 95 thousand children of age group 6- 12 years through 520 primary schools of the city. 3 killed in accidents Another report adds: Three persons were killed in a separate road accidents in Khulna Monday. The deceased were identified as Farahad Shaikh (16) son of Ayub Ali Shaikh, Billal Molla (17) son of Sorwar Molla of village Terokhada under Terokhada Upazila and Abdul Hadi (65) of Tootpara of the city. Police and local sources said that Farhad and Billal was returning home by a motor cycle Sunday noon and while they reached Katenga Bazar they lost control of the motor cycle and dashed against a nearby boundary wall. Farhad Shaikh died on the spot and Bellal died on the way to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Both of them ware students of class nine of Fazlul Haq Kotenga High School. In another incident, a vegetable trader Abdul Hadi (65) was coming to Chanmari area of the city this morning after buying vegetables. When he reached Sonadanga bypass road a speedy bus hit him and he died on the spot at about 9 am.
