Writ filed challenging Bar polls result announcement

A writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking vote recounting in the Bar election as per the rules of the Bangladesh Bar Council Order-1972.
Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akand field the writ petition with the section concerned of the High Court on Sunday, a UNB report said.
The petition will be placed at an HC bench comprising Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Mohammad Ashraful Kamal on Monday.
The election to the Bangladesh Bar Council was held across the country on August 26.
On August 3, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, chairman of the bar council, announced the official results of the election in which Awami League-backed candidates were unofficially declared winners.
In the petition, the SC lawyer said according to the Section 15 (2) of the Bangladesh Bar Council Order-1972, the Bar Council Chairman should count the votes receiving ballot papers from different polling centers.
But without counting the votes centrally, AG Mahbubey Alam announced the polls results in violation of the rules.
Terming the polls results illegal, Eunus Ali Akand said the polls results were also changed after the announcement as adv SM Rezaul Karim got the 8th place in the unofficial counting but when the results were announced he stood 6th.
Bangladesh Bar Council, its chairman and advocate SM Rezaul Karim have been made respondents to the writ.
Meanwhile, the writ also demanded cancellation of the polls results of SM Rezaul Karim. It also urged the HC to issue a rule asking the government to explain why the authorities concerned should not be directed to recount the votes.
It also demanded issuance of a stay order on publication of any gazette notification of the polls results till disposal of the matter.
