Writ filed seeking judicial probe into Tangail killings

A writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) on Monday seeking a judicial inquiry into the Tangail police firing incident that left four people dead on Friday, report agencies.
An HC bench comprising Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Zafar Ahmed fixed September 30 for the hearing on the writ petition.
Advocate Salma Ali, executive director of Bangladesh Jatiya Mohila Ainjibi Samity, filed the writ petition on Monday.
The home secretary, IGP, Tangail SP, DC and other authorities concerned were made defendant in the writ petition.
Advocate Fauzia Karim Firoz stood for the petitioner while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state.
The petitioner also sought issuance of rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why the police action on the demonstration should not be declared illegal.
Meanwhile, the Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of Kalihati and Ghatail thanas in Tangail had been withdrawn over Friday's clash, which left four people dead.
Tangail's Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Zamiruddin Ahmed told the news agency that Ghatail OC Mokhlesur Rahman and Kalihati OC Shahidul Islam had been attached to the office of the Dhaka Range.
On Saturday, three sub-inspectors and four constables of Kalihati thana were withdrawn and an inquiry was ordered the same day.
