Writ seeking judicial inquiry into Tangail police firing filed

A writ petition seeking judicial inquiry into the recent incident of killings in police firing in Kalihati upazila of Tangail was filed with the High Court.
Bangladesh National Women Lawyers' Association (BNWLA) executive director Salma Ali filed the writ, making home secretary, inspector general of police, deputy inspector general of police of Dhaka range, deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of Tangail and officer- in-charge of Kalihati police station as respondents.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Zafar Ahmed held partial hearing on the matter and set September 30 for further hearing, a BSS report said.
"The writ sought directive from the court for forming a judicial probe committee headed by a sitting or former judge of the High Court, investigate the matter and submit its report before the court," said Fawjia Karim Firoz, lawyer for the petitioner.
