Written segment in DU admission questions

Monday, 1 April 2019

The University of Dhaka is going to introduce written segment in addition to the existing one of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ). The syndicate of the university decided so in its meeting last Thursday. Earlier, there were only MCQs--- 120 marks were allocated for MCQs and 80 marks for scores obtained in SSC and HSC.
The decision of the university to introduce written portion will surely inspire prospective candidates to get prepared accordingly. Earlier, when there were only MCQs in the test, the learners relied more on memory, and less on creativity. Now that they have to write answers also, they will be motivated to grasp the concepts of various subjects. Also, this system will discourage question-paper leak.
Teachers need to be careful in evaluating answers of the written part since there remains the chance of marking differently by different evaluators for the same answer. In order to ensure conformity of scoring of the written part, the university authority can circulate sample answers, and detailed instructions to the evaluators.
We thank the Dhaka University Syndicate for taking such a good decision.
