Wrongly implicated

Monday, 21 October 2019

Last week, a 55-year-old man from Natore was finally freed of charges he was wrongly implicated after 17 years of suffering. Bablu Sheikh was made an accused in a case, in place of one Sri Babu, according to a Bangla daily report. The court blamed law enforcement authorities and lawyers for the harassment of Bablu Sheikh, who was compared with Jahalam in a similar case. A young man from Tangail, Jahalam was wrongly jailed and he was released only after the High Court's intervention earlier this year. These cases show deficiency in the rule of law. It is very sad if innocent people languish in jail. There is a need to establish public trust in the trial process so that justice is delivered.
