W'shop on 'Practice of Islamic Banking' for Bank of Ceylon officials inaugurated

The inaugural function of a workshop titled 'Practice of Islamic Banking' organised by Islami Bank Training and Research Academy (IBTRA) for the visiting team of Bank of Ceylon, Sri Lanka was held at the board room of Islami Bank Tower in the city Saturday.
Chairman of the board of directors of Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd (IBBL) Abu Nasser Muhammad Abduz Zaher attended the function as the chief guest, said a press release.
IBBL Deputy Executive President ATM Harunur Rashid Chowdhury presided over the function.
The inaugural function was attended, among others, by M Azizul Huq, prominent Islami banking consultant, Md Shamsul Haque, Md Abdul Mannan and Md Habibur Rahman, IBBL's deputy executive presidents and top executives.
The Bank of Ceylon, the largest sate-owned commercial bank of Sri Lanka, has initiated an effort to establish an Islamic banking unit under its conventional banking umbrella.
It has got approval from the central bank of Sir Lanka in this connection.
With a view to materialising the noble cause, the Bank of Ceylon has selected IBBL from where they can acquire practical experience along with some theoretical knowledge in Islamic banking.
A four-member delegation, led by MFM Nilam of Bank of Ceylon, is attending the workshop.
Abu Nasser Muhammad Abduz Zaher, in his speech, said the vital force of IBBL is Islami Shari'ah and all investment of this bank is open to people of all strata irrespective of race and religion.
He further said IBBL has brightened its image not only in Bangladesh but also abroad.
IDB has advised those who want to establish Islamic bank outside the country to take cooperation from IBBL. The workshop for Bank of Ceylon's officers is its example, he added.
