WUB honours A Gaffar Chy, Altaf Mahmud

World University of Bangladesh (WUB) honoured Language Movement veteran Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury and music composer of ‘Amar Bhaier Roktey Rangano Ekushey’ Altaf Mahmud, says a press release Thursday.
In a ceremony held at the ICMAB auditorium, the university honoured Gaffar, also a prominent journalist, with a crest while Shaheed Freedom Fighter Mahmud was awarded with World University of Bangladesh Gold Medal.
Sara Ara Mahmud, wife of Altaf Mahmud, received the gold medal, says the press release.
Columnist Gaffar said WUB actually honoured the map and the national flag of the country by honouring a Language Movement veteran and a Freedom Fighter.
Sara Ara Mahmud termed the effort of the university in honouring Language Movement veteran and Freedom Fighter as praiseworthy and exemplary.
Treasurer of the university Morsheda Chowdhury in her welcome address said the WUB honoured history of the country and was respectful to the heritage and history-makers.
She said the university would honour a Language Movement veteran and a Freedom Fighter each year on March 18.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Abdul Mannan Choudhury presided over the programme which was also attended by, among others, chief guest noted journalist ABM Musa, Combined Cultural Alliance president Nasir Uddin Yousuf, Advocate Sultana Kamal and Freedom Fighter and researcher Major (retd) ASM Shamsul Arefin, the press release added.
