Yaba cases to be placed under STA

The much-talked-about Yaba narcotics cases would be lodged under the Speedy Trial Act (STA), an inter-ministerial meeting decided Thursday, reports UNB.
Briefing the reporters at Home Ministry, Home Secretary Abdul Karim said some Yaba tablets were seized and several suspects involved in Yaba tablet trading, were nabbed in 2002. But the suspected offenders were freed through flaws in laws, he said.
" Stern legal action will be taken against both carrier and itsgodfathers under Speedy Trial Act," the Home Secretary said after an inter-ministerial meeting on narcotics.
Chaired by the Home Secretary, the meeting was attended, among others, by Director General of RAB, senior officers of Coast Guard, police and the Department of Narcotics Control.
