Yasin Ali resigns from SEC

Muhammad Yasin Ali, a member of the securities regulator, Monday resigned from his post to comply with a verbal order of the government, officials said. On the day Mr Ali submitted his resignation letter to Secretary of Banking and Financial Institution Division Shafiqur Rahman Patwary at 3.30pm at his secretariat office. When asked, Mr Ali said he has resigned following the government's initiative, which has been taken to reconstitute the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). "I have mentioned personal grounds in my resignation letter," Ali told the FE. The Secretary of Banking and Financial Institution Division recently asked Mr Ali to resign from his post. Ali wanted to take time for his resignation until Finance Minister AMA Muhith returns home. The Finance Minister is now in the Turkish capital Istanbul to attend the fourth UN Conference on Least Developed Countries. However, Ali refused to make comment as to why he has backtracked from his decision.
