Young man gunned down in city

A young man was gunned down by unknown assailants at Dania under Shyampur thana Thursday night. The victim was identified as Syed Shafi Mahmud (24), son of Syed Mohammad Ibrahim of 61 Islampur under Kotwali police station. Police quoted victim's family members as saying that Shafi went out of home at night after receiving a phone call. But, he did not return. Being informed by locals, police recovered the bullet-hit body from in front of Sarail Mosque in Dania at about 3.0am Friday and sent it to Mitford Hospital for autopsy. Police said the assailants shot Shafi on his head and left the body on the spot. However, the cause behind the killing could not be known immediately. — UNB
