Youth Day observed in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA,Dec 9 (BSS) : National Youth Day-2010 was celebrated in all the seven Upazilas in the district Wednesday in a befitting manner.
In the celebration of the day, the Department of Youth Development (DYD) chalked out an elaborate programme.
The programme included rally, cheques disbursement, documentary film show, sports competition and prize distribution to the winners.
A discussion meeting was also held in the auditorium of Zila Parishad (ZP) of the town on the significance of the day.
Chief executive officer of ZP Kallol Kumar Chakrabartee addressed it as the chief guest.
Later, the cheques for Tk 0.17 million were distributed to the 5 youths for fish culture, poultry birds rearing and dress making to make them self dependent.
Earlier, a big rally led by DC M Shahidul Islam was brought out from the collectorate building that paraded the main roads of the town.
A large number of people including the youths, NGO workers, social activists and the departmental staff participated in the rally and the meeting.
National Electricity Week begins
Another report adds : National Electricity Week-2010 began in the district Wednesday to create awareness among the consumers about stopping misuse of electricity.
To mark the week in a befitting manner, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and Rural Electrification Board (REB) planned elaborate programme.
The programme included rally, publicity, pasting posters, leaflet distribution, illegal electric line disconnection, motivational campaign to use energy saving bulb, digital meter and solar panel, essay competition of students and prize distribution to the best consumers.
Deputy Commissioner M. Shahidul Islam formally inaugurated the week by releasing pigeons on the premises of BPDB office of the town as the chief guest.
Executive engineer of BPDB Ahsanul Kabir, political leaders including president of Jatiya Sramik League, district unit Khairul Islam and other staff of the board were present on the occasion. Later, a big rally was brought out from the office premises that paraded the main roads of the town.
Besides, another rally led by general manager of Gaibandha Palli Bidyut Samity under REB M. Khalequzzaman was brought out from REB office at Tulshighat in the morning that ended at DC office.
