Youth hacked dead

Unidentified miscreants hacked to death a young man in Sylhet city’s Patatula area on Friday evening. The deceased was identified as Zillul Haque Zilu, 25, son of Nur Miah of Palpur at Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj district. Zilu was the former president of Gobindaganj Degree College unit of JCD at Chhatak and an activist of Sylhet city unit. He was loyal to Jamal Uddin, Sylhet district unit JCD vice-president. Witnesses said six youths riding three motorbikes chased Zilu while he was taking soft drinks at a shop at Patantula around 7pm. Being chased, Zilu entered ‘Sraboni Residential Area’. However, the attackers ran after him and managed to catch him. Later, they chopped him with sharp weapons, leaving him seriously injured. Locals rushed Zilu to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 7:30pm. Police suspected that Zilu was killed following an internal feud of JCD. They also arrested two JCD activists and recovered a blood-stained knife from the spot, according to a news agency.
