Youths' struggle would help oust govt: Fakhrul
FE REPORT | Thursday, 24 August 2023
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said that the struggle of the youths would help oust the government for holding a free, fair and participatory election under a neutral caretaker government.
He also said, "The ruling Awami League has one problem. They believe that they are the owner of the country. To get rid of the situation there must be a struggle by the youths and other people. The huge stone (government) on our shoulders cannot be removed without a big tsunami."
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came up with the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled 'Constitutional and human rights protection of the citizens' organised by Gono Adhikar Parishad (Noor) at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the city.
He said that the Constitution that we have now was prepared by Awami League and as per that Constitution, there is no scope to raise any question.
He also said that youths are supposed to fight and struggle for the betterment of the country.
He said that he asked a youth to know about what he wanted to be in future. The youth replied that he wanted to be a politician.
"Why? Is it (politics) to earn huge money? Imagine the level of the present youths' thoughts," he said.
He also said, "If we cannot bring about changes, then the existence of the country will be fallen into trouble."
The joint secretary general of BNP Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal said that the ruling Awami League has polluted the country's politics.
He also alleged the government for politicization of administration and judiciary.
President of a faction of Gono Adhikar Parishad Nurul Haque Noor presided over the discussion, which was also addressed by chairman of Bangladesh Kalyan Party Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, chairman of Jatiya Dal Syed Ehsanul Huda and acting secretary general of a faction of Jatiya Party Ahsan Habib Lincoln.
