Yunus places criminal charges against DIFE officials

A written application has been filed with the Third Labour Court in Dhaka for taking cognizance criminal charge against Saif Uddin Ahmed, Inspector General of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE), and some others, on an allegation that they had tempered the documents of the case filed against Nobel Laureate Prof Dr Muhmmad Yunus and his three colleagues.
However, the judge of the Third Labour Court, Sheikh Merina Sultana, did not pass any order on the issue. She adjourned the proceedings of the case till September 20, said DIFE lawyers Khurshid Alam Khan.
Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun and Barrister Khaja Tanvir Ahmed, counsels of Prof Yunus, made a verbal demand to the court on September 5. However, this time they filed a formal application while cross-examination of the plaintiff in the case.
According to the application, "Prosecution witness no 1 confessed of having committed forgery and tampering of documents in the 'inspection check list' of August 16 in 2021 relating to documents given in evidence in his deposition on September 5 in 2023."
They prayed to the court to be pleased upon considering the offence of forgery of the document against the accused persons for commission of offence under sections 463/471/475/476 of the Penal Code, 1860 and direction the concerned sub-ordinate Court under section 195 (1) (c) of the CrPC for taking cognizance the CR Case against the accused persons.
