Zero tolerance against violence on women stressed

RAJSHAHI, Dec 13 (BSS): Zero tolerance against all sorts of violence and repression against women is very important for the sake of mainstreaming the womenfolk everywhere in the society for total welfare of the nation, speakers said at a daylong training workshop here Tuesday.
Besides, they said participation of leaders of influence along with the journalists should come forward and they should play a vital role to attain the cherished goal.
District Information Office (DIO) under its 'Joint Programme to Address Violence against Women' project organized the workshop for the journalists styled "Prevention of Violence against Women: Role of Media" at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner's Office. District Administration and UNFPA jointly supported the workshop.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Abdul Mannan, who addressed the inaugural session as the chief guest, stressed the need for taking forward the womenfolk through freeing them from violence and repression besides enriching them with proper education and modern knowledge.
He also said emphasis should be given on empowerment of women in the greater interest of fulfilling the hopes and aspiration of the nation and making its hard-earned independence meaningful.
In his address of welcome, Deputy Director of DIO Farhad Hossain narrated the main thrusts of the project together with highlighting the objectives of the workshop.
In the discussion, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Abdul Hannan, DIO Deputy Director Farhad Hossain and Deputy Director of Imam Training Academy Syed Aminuddin Mahmud presented three keynote papers on different issues relating to addressing violence against women.
In this regard, they underscored the need for forging social resistance against the social disease and said the media can supplement the effort through repeated objective reporting.
