HONG KONG, Nov 5 (AFP): Veteran badminton star Zhou Mi has hailed her return to the top of the world rankings as "a miracle," 18 months after coming out of retirement and switching her allegiance from China to Hong Kong.
The 29-year-old became world number one ahead of China's Lu Lin after strong performances at Super Series events in Denmark and France last month.
"I am not a young player any more and I thought I was past my prime," she was quoted as saying by the South China Morning Post Wednesday.
"But having started from scratch with a world ranking of outside 200 to surge back to number one within such a short space of time at my age is, nonetheless, a miracle.
