The BNP has said that Awami League (AL) leaders use offensive language when they speak about Ziaur Rahman because he had established ‘multi-party democracy’ on the ‘graveyard created by BAKSAL’. ‘They (AL) were supposed to pronounce independence (of Bangladesh), but they could not. Ziaura Rahman pronounced it,’ BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said while addressing a discussion in the city. Mentioning that Bangladesh’s founding president Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman formed BAKSAL (Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League) through the 4th amendment to the Constitution in January 1975 banning all other parties, Nazrul Islam said the AL was scared of BNP founder Zia since he did what the AL could not. Zia reestablished multi-party democracy. Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh organised the discussion, according to a news agency, according to a news agency.
