BRAHMANBARIA, Mar 30: Zia Fertilizer Company Limited (ZFCL) at Ashugonj failed to reach the production target during the current financial year due mainly to frequent operation suspension.
On Tuesday last, the factory had resumed production at 8:00 am after completing necessary repair. But it went out of order due to mechanical fault at its ammonia plant. Earlier on March 22, the factory went out of order at 2:00 pm due to a technical fault which developed at the cooler unit of the plant.
Meanwhile, the factory was overhauled for 51 days at the cost of Tk 430 million since October 11, 2008 for its smooth functioning. Even after the repair, the factory became out of order at least six times till now.
According to ZFCL sources, a leakage developed in the signal compressor of the cooler unit of the ammonia plant. As a result, the system of the cooling unit was disrupted.
The authority said engineers and technicians worked round the clock to repair the fault and they were successful. The production resumed on March 25 morning and went into operation.
The production capacity of the industry is 1430 tonnes of urea a day. Suspension of urea fertiliser production will make the company to incur Tk 7.0 million loss every 24 hours, sources said.
In this circumstance, Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) should evaluate the monitoring reports of ZFCL and its performance including the details of its overhauling and maintenance work.
