Ziad Shatara elected AMTOB president

Ziad Shatara, managing director and chief executive officer of Robi Axiata PLC, has been elected the president of the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB), placing him at the helm of the country's mobile telecommunications industry at a time of rapid digital change.
Shatara was elected at AMTOB's virtual annual general meeting held on March 11. He will succeed Yasir Azman, chief executive officer of Grameenphone, for a two-year term beginning on April 1.
The newly constituted board has also appointed Johan Buse, chief executive officer of Banglalink, as the senior vice-president.
Azman will serve as the vice-president, while Nurul Mabud Chowdhury, managing director of Teletalk Bangladesh Limited, has been named the director.
The meeting was moderated by Mohammad Zulfikar, director and secretary general of AMTOB.
Senior representatives from member and associate member organisations also took part in the meeting, including Abdus Salam of Ericsson Bangladesh, Jason Wu of Huawei Technologies, Taimur Rahman of Banglalink, Tanveer Mohammad of Grameenphone, Shahed Alam of Robi Axiata, and Luthfullahil Mozid of Teletalk.
Reacting to his appointment, Shatara said he was honoured to lead AMTOB at what he described as a pivotal moment for Bangladesh's digital economy. He noted that the mobile telecommunications sector connects people across the country and pledged to work towards building a smart and sustainable digital future.
He added that AMTOB would work closely with regulators and industry stakeholders to unlock the sector's full potential.
Shatara also emphasised the need to understand the evolving digital needs of Bangladesh's people and to create an environment that supports innovation, with the aim of expanding connectivity and strengthening the sector's contribution to national development.
