Zia\\\'s 34th death anniv observed

The 34th death anniversary of late President Ziaur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was observed across the country on Saturday amid various programmes, reports UNB.
BNP leaders and activists, led by party chairperson Khaleda Zia, placed wreaths and offered fateha at Zia's mazar at the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar around 11:55pm.
On May 30, 1981, Zia was assassinated by a group of disgruntled army officers at Chittagong Circuit House.
Born on January 19, 1936 at Bagbari in Bogra, Zia was a sector commander during the Liberation War and awarded Bir Uttam, the highest gallantry award for a living officer for his wartime services.
Khaleda attended a milad mahfil arranged by Jatiyatabadi Ulema Dal on the premises of Zia's mazar and also joined the doa mahfil.
The BNP chairperson also inaugurated a voluntary blood donation programme jointly arranged by Doctors' Association of Bangladesh (DAB) and Zia Sanskritik Sangathan (ZISAS) on the mazar premises.
BNP leaders Moudud Ahmed, Mahbubur Rahman, Abdullah Al Noman, Chowdhury Kamal Ibn Yusuf, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Shahjahan Omar, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, Mohammad Shajahan, Mahbubuddin Khokan, Fazlul Haque Milon, Asaduzzaman Ripon, Khairul Kabir Khokan, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury  Anee, Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Rehana Akter Ranu, Syeda Ashifa  Ashrafi Papiya and Sultan Salauddin Tuku, among others, were present.
BNP chief Khaleda Zia also distributed cooked food among the destitute in various parts of the capital under a three-day destitute feeding programme taken by Dhaka city unit BNP.
