Zila Parishad engr lands in jail over attacks on Hindus in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Dec 24 (UNB): A court here on Sunday sent an Assistant Engineer of Rangpur Zila Parishad to jail in a case filed over the attack on the houses of Hindu community members in Thakurpara village of Sadar upazila.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Quamrul Islam passed the order after the investigation officer of the case produced Falda Rahman before his court.
Earlier, district Detective Branch of police arrested the accused from Shyamoli in the capital on Saturday.
With this, a total of 75 people have so far been arrested in connection with the attack.
Over a reported Facebook post by Titu Chandra 'demeaning' Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PUBH), around 8,000 people from nearby villages marched towards Thakurbari village, a Hindu-dominated village, and vandalised and torched 8-10 houses of Hindus on November 10.
On information, police rushed in, charged baton, fired rubber bullets and lobbed teargas canisters to disperse the agitating people, killing a man and injuring 20 others, including four policemen.
