Zillur Rahman pays homage to Ivy

President M Zillur Rahman Friday paid rich tribute to his beloved late wife Ivy Rahman by placing wreaths and offering fateha at her grave at Banani Graveyard here marking her eighth death anniversary, reports BSS.
A pall of gloom virtually descended on the graveyard when the President hugged his son Nazmul Hasan, MP, after placing the wreaths at the grave of his wife, the closest associate of his long political life.
The President also stood in solemn silence for sometime beside the grave and later spread red petals of roses on top of the grave.
Ivy Rahman, the Awami League (AL) Women's Affairs Secretary and president of Mohila AL received severe injuries in the August 21, 2004 grenade attack at an AL rally in the city targeting incumbent Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina and the then leader of the opposition, who narrowly escaped the attempt.
Ivy Rahman succumbed at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on August 24, after three days of the heinous killing of another 23 leaders and activists of the AL.
After placing the wreath the President offered fateha and munajat seeking eternal peace for the departed soul.
Later, AL Advisory Council member Tofail Ahmed, Communications and Railway Minister Obaidul Quader, Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Home Affairs Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun, AL joint general secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former minister Abdul Matin Khashru, Whip of Parliament Mirza Azam and local lawmaker Rahmat Ali placed wreaths on behalf of Bangladesh AL.
Besides, leaders of Mohila AL and other associate organisations of the AL also paid their rich tributes to the memory of Ivy Rahman by placing wreaths on behalf of their respective organisations.
Afterwards, the President placed wreaths and offered fateha at the graves of the family members of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who were assassinated brutally along with Bangabandhu in the black night of August 15, 1975.
He also placed wreaths at the graves of three national leaders at the same graveyard.
UNB adds: Marking the 8th death anniversary of the President's wife Ivy Rahman, a milad mafil was held at Bangabhaban Friday afternoon.
President M Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina attended the milad and special dua mahfil where eternal peace was sought for the departed souls of the victims of the August 21 grenade attack.
Cabinet members, advisers to the PM, members of parliament, senior leaders of the Awami League and its associate bodies, and high civil and military officials also attended the milad.
Relatives and family members of the President also joined the milad and dua mahfil.
A special dua was also offered for the salvation of the departed souls of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his slain family members as well as of four national leaders of the country.
Hafez Qari Maulana Mohammad Abdul Halim conducted the munajat.
