Zillur warns against anarchy, as food rationing launched for RMG workers

Commerce Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman said Wednesday negotiations could be held on logical demands of the ready-made garment (RMG) workers, but any anarchy in this sector would be quelled with a strong hand, reports UNB.brCalling upon all to discharge duties from their respective positions in ensuring a working environment in the garment sector, the Adviser reminded the garment industry is a sector of pride for all. br'Strong roles should be played in every step in future with the coordinated initiative of owners, workers and government, said the Commerce Adviser while inaugurating a rationing programme for the garment workers during Ramadan.brBangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) arranged the programme at the Gazipur crossing on the Dhaka-Gazipur road. brDr Hossain Zillur said the initiative would play a supplementary role in enhancing production and business to the benefit of the owners. Apart from the OMS Programme of the government, BDR's Dal-Bhat and TCB's fair-price programmes to offset price rises, the BGMEA initiative would help keep the prices of essentials stable during Ramadan, he expressed hope.brUnder the rationing recipe for some two million workers in the export industry, rice will be sold at Tk 27.10 per kg and lentil Tk 80 and chick-pea Tk 50. brBGMEA introduced the rationing system in the country's 11 places and opened eight medical camps.brThe BGMEA authorities through the Adviser handed over a 36-seater pickup van to the Gazipur Police Administration to ensure security for the garment factories.brBGMEA president Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury, vice-president Mahmud Hasan, Deputy Commissioner M Borhanuddin Bhuiyan and Police Super M Abdul Baten were among others present on the occasion.br
