Zohra Begum Kazi dead

Dr Zohra Begum Kazi, the first female doctor of the subcontinent, died from old-age complications at Gulshan in the city Wednesday. She was 97, reports bdnews24.com.
Zohra obtained her medical degree from Lady Harding Medical College in Delhi in 1935 and was awarded 'Viceroy Medal' for brilliant academic performance.
She joined Dhaka Medical College Hospital as a gynaecologist in 1947 and was then the head of the department.
Zohra was involved in the Language Movement in 1952 and directly contributed to the Liberation War in 1971.
She was buried at Banani graveyard after Namaz-e-Janaza at Gulshan Azad Mosque.
She was the daughter of Dr Kazi Sattar of Kalkini Upazila in Madaripur district and the wife of late Raziuddin Bhuiyan, a former lawmaker from Narsingdi district.
