KHULNA, Dec 13 (UNB): Ganosamhati Andolon Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki has emphasised the urgent need for the judiciary's independence from government control, calling it essential for ensuring justice and democratic governance in Bangladesh.
He made the remarks while speaking at a public dialogue organised by the party's Khulna district committee at the Khulna Press Club on Friday.
Saki said, "The judiciary must be made completely independent and separated from the government's authority. Without this, justice cannot prevail, and democracy cannot flourish."
The dialogue, presided over by Khulna district committee convener Munir Chowdhury Sohel, focused on building a new political framework to achieve democratic transformation.
Saki urged all citizens, including political parties and professional groups, to unite in safeguarding the country's sovereignty and democratic values. He also highlighted the importance of empowering local governments to make them the center of developmental activities.
Participants in the dialogue demanded immediate steps to address rising commodity prices, ensure job security for workers, and improve the overall socio-economic condition.
Saki criticized the government's failure to uphold democratic principles and called for political unity to ensure effective governance.
