Tuesday, 4 August 2015
Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Mohammad Sayedul Haq observed Monday that the growth of the country's shrimp industry could be expedited with the diligent adherence to the existing rules and maintenance of newly formulated Code of Conduct (CoC) for the sector, reports BSS.
"Despite global recession, Bangladesh has earned Tk 46.61 billion by exporting 83524 tonnes of fish and fish products and it was possible because of healthy practices of fish culture at the farmers level, modernisation of the fisheries and establishment of quality control laboratories," said the minister.
The minister was speaking at a seminar held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre to mark the launching of the code formulated for the development of the shrimp sector of Bangladesh. Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation (BS&FF) organised the function as part of the observance of the National Fisheries Week-2015.
With director general of the Department of Fisheries (DoF) Syed Arif Azad in the chair, the seminar was also addressed, among others, by vice-chairman of the Export Development Bureau Subasish Bose, country director of World Fish Centre Craig Meisner and BSFF's chairman Syed Mahmudul Haq.
