‘BD faces huge loss for lack of embankments’

Tuesday, 27 May 2014

Speakers at a press conference on Tuesday said Bangladesh faces enormous loss every year due to river erosion and tidal water intrusion for the lack of enough and permanent embankment across the coastal areas. People migrate to cities in a big number having everything lost to the rivers or sea, they said adding that unless the coastal land is protected with permanent embankments, 35 million of coastal people will remain in endless risk. The Alliance of the Coastal NGOs, a band of 38 organisations of coastal belt, organised the press conference at the National Press Club, according to a news agency.
