‘Calling ACC a commission of impunity injustice’

Monday, 24 November 2014

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman M Badiuzzman said on Sunday the ACC is being called by a certain quarter as a commission of impunity intentionally, which is 'designed to tarnish its image', reports UNB.
"Injustice has been shown calling the ACC as a commission of impunity," he told a discussion held at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium in the capital.
Reviewing the previous works of the ACC or those of the Bureau of Anti-Corruption, Badiuzzaman said there was no example of ruling party ministers and MPs grilled in the country by the ACC, but the present commission has been doing it.
"The ACC has also sued many ruling party leaders and high officials of the government. I firmly believe if there is political will, it is possible to bring down corruption to a tolerable level," he added.
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) organised the discussions in the morning marking its 10th anniversary.
Professor Emeritus of Dhaka University Dr Anisuzzaman, ACC commissioner Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed and its secretary Maksudul Hasan Khan, among others, spoke at the discussion.
Claiming that people's trust on the ACC has increased in recent years, Badiuzzman said the commission receives thousands of graft complaints each year and it launches probes into the allegations as per rules.
"We never consider the social and political identity of any graft accused in conducting probes against them," he said.
