‘Early marriage a bar to women empowerment’

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki said Monday early marriage is one of the main challenges in the country to establish women empowerment, reports BSS.
"Child marriage is one of the first challenges of women empowerment though there are a handsome number of success stories in the country."
She was speaking as the chief guest at the Bangladesh Girl Summit 2014, the first of its kind happening in Asia at the Osmani Auditorium in the city organised by BRAC with its Founder Chairperson Fazle Hasan Abed in the chair.
The theme of the summit is "Ending Child Marriage and Empowering Girls", that recognised the importance and power of community members and structured to bring social changes for girls - including the importance of engaging men and youth.
