‘Ex-mayor’s wife plotting to evict FF’s family’

CHITTAGONG, Feb 12: A housewife in the port city's KC Dey Road area alleged that Hasina Mohiuddin, wife of city Awami League leader and ex-mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, has plotted to evict her from her city home with the help of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), where Chowdhury had been a long city mayor.
At a press conference at Chittagong Press Club Wednesday Jhinu Rani Barua, wife of freedom fighter Amal Barua alias Latu Barua said, Hasina Mohiuddin has been trying to uproot her family for a long time by demolishing her home by illegally using the CCC magistrate and getting a stay order issued by the court.
She blamed Hasan Mahmud Shamsher, APS to former mayor Mohiuddin, Mesbah Uddin, nephew of Mohiuddin and Jahar Lal Hazari, CCC ward councillor for helping Hasina Mohiuddin and harassing her family members.
The press conference was attended by her ailing husband Latu Barua and three children. "In her attempt to grab my land Mesbah Uddin, nephew of Mohiuddin Chowdhury and Hasan Mahmud Shamsher, office secretary of Chittagong City Awami League has been threatening the members of my family," Jharna Barua said.
Jharna said her husband had bought a land from one Tapash Chowdhury on June 17, 2001 and got registered the same duly. ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury was mayor of the CCC during that time. Within one month of getting the land registered, police arrested her husband, she said.
After that Mohiuddin Chowdhury, whose land was adjacent to mine on the east, claimed that he was the owner of my land and I should leave it as soon as possible. He lodged a case against my husband in the court in the same year but lost the case in 2005.
Later, he filed another case in the Judges court in Chittagong in the year 2006 which is now under trial, she said adding, the magistrate of CCC demolished my house and shop on the land on January 20 and 21 on the plea that the building was so old and became risky and listed in the demolition list of the CCC.
Jharna further said: "Some miscreants attacked her house and shop at KC Dey Road on November 17, 2012 but they could not uproot us as the then Industries Minister Dilip Barua had intercepted."
