‘Form monitoring cell to cope with natural disasters’

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina directed on Monday the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief to form a monitoring cell to monitor and cope with seasonal natural disasters, report agencies.
"The PM also asked the local administration to stay beside disaster-hit people round the clock," PM's Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said.
He said the PM expressed deep shock at the loss of lives and property in nor'westers that swept different parts of the country during the last few days.
Sheikh Hasina prayed for the eternal peace of departed souls and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved families. She also wished early recovery of the injured.
Meanwhile, the PM asked the officials to expedite the execution of the development programmes taken by the government to alleviate poverty, contain terrorism and militancy and make the country as a middle income one by 2021.
In view of this, she asked the Deputy Commissioners of every district to find out first the homeless people in their jurisdiction and go for 'Ashrayan' project to build home for them apart from giving allotment of the Khas land.
