‘Kidnapped’ Ctg jeweller rescued in Comilla

Jeweller Mridul Kumar Chowdhury, who was allegedly picked up by a group of people, introducing themselves as Detective Branch (DB) personnel, from near his Chittagong city residence on February 11, was rescued from Burichong upazila of the district early Monday. A team of police, led by Sub-inspector Debashis Kumar of Debpur police camp in Burichong, rescued Mridul Kumar from Kongshangar village of the upazila at about 3:45am. Mridul Kumar told UNB that a group of people, numbering 7-8, introducing themselves as DB personnel, picked him up at gunpoint from near his Hazari Lane residence in Chittagong city at about 10:30am on February 11 while he was going to his shop. Shimul Kumar Chowdhury, brother of the victim, filed a case with Chittagong Kotwali Police Station on the day. After picking up Mridul, the kidnappers blindfolded him with black ribbon and took him to different places, added the victim.
