‘Mugger’ injured in ‘gunfight’ with cops

SATKHIRA, Aug 21 (UNB): A suspected mugger was injured in a 'gunfight' between his cohorts and police at Krishnanagar in Kaliganj upazila early Friday.
The victim was identified as Shaheen Sarder, son of Sohel Uddin Batul of Laxminath village in the upazila.
Sub-inspector Kamal Hossain, information officer of Satkhira district police, said a group of muggers intercepted Nirmal Ghosh, son of Janatan Ghosh of Krishnagar village, and snatched Tk .60 million from his possession at gunpoint when he reached Chatrar intersection around 2:15 pm on Thursday.
Hearing screams, police rushed in and chased the muggers and caught Shaheen along with Tk .48 million while the others managed to flee the scene.
According to his 'confessional' statement, police along with Shaheen conducted a drive at Krishnagar to arrest his associates around 1:35 am.
