‘N\\\'ganj-5 by-polls to be fair, peaceful’

NARAYANGANJ, Jun 17 (UNB): Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Zabed Ali said Tuesday they are determined to hold a free and fair by-election in Narayanganj-5 constituency billed for June 26.
Talking to reporters after a views-exchange meeting with candidates at the Narayanganj District Administration auditorium, he cautioned that stern actions would be taken against those who would violate the election code of conduct.
The EC also noted that no candidate has so far asked for army deployment during the polls. "Hope, we can hold a fair election on our capacity," he said.
The parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Jatiya Party MP Nasim Osman on April 30.
