CHITTAGONG, Sept 28: A Prime Minister does not select the members of her or his entourage abroad, said Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Haque.
"May be, the Prime Minister selects one or two members of the Cabinet for any foreign tour. But inclusion of the others members depends solely on the respective ministries. And such a decision is taken two months ahead of the scheduled tour," he said.
The minister said this while responding to a question of a local journalist who said how the Health Secretary Niaz Uddin Mian, who had resorted to forged means to take a freedom fighter's (FF) certificate, went to New York with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to attend the 69th UN General Assembly.
He faced the local reporters after attending a discussion as the chief guest organised marking the death anniversary of Shaheed Major Nazmul Huq, sector commander at Sector 7 in the War of Liberation of 1971.
Major Nazmul became Shaheed on September 27, 1971 as sector commander. He was born at a village under Lohagara Upazila of Chittagong district.
The minister said that very little is known about the valiant freedom fighter Shaheed Major Nazmul Huq, as he had fought and sacrificed his life away from his native district.
"I would take initiative after going to Dhaka from here to name a major road in the port city after Shaheed Major Nazmul Huq and another major road after valiant freedom fighter SM Rafiq," he said, adding, that nothing has been done for another valiant freedom fighter Shaheed Swapan Chowdhury who had sacrificed his life at Kaukhali of Rangamati hill district in December 1971.
Regarding stay in office of the alleged health secretary, the Liberation War Affairs minister said so long he is in office he will have to perform his duties. We have seen that many have contested the polls when in imprisonment.
