‘Resolve crisis in 7 days’

Leaders of five political parties demanded Monday to hold national dialogue to resolve the ongoing political crisis within the next seven days.
Leaders of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Gano Forum, Nagorik Oikkya (NO), Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) organised a rally on the day on front of the Jatiya Press Club demanding to ensure peoples democratic rights including holding rallies and meetings and save people's lives and stop violence.
They leaders were forced to hold human chain and rally as police imposed ban on using microphone during the programme.
They demanded to the government to ensure public security, stop violence and returning back fundamental rights for holding meetings and rallies.
"It is the responsibility of the government for resolving the present political crisis. We called upon the government to resolve it within the next seven days. Otherwise they (government) should resign," Convenor of the NO Mahmudur Rahman Manna said on the day.
Criticising the BNP leader security being provided by the government he said, "If 8-10 trucks were deployed for the security of former prime minister Begum Zia than it is necessary to have 30-40 trucks for the security of the Prime Minister".
He called upon the government to avoid such act in the name of security.
He called upon all to be united against the autocrat and razakars. He demanded of the government to lift the ban on assembling rallies and meetings. He suggested BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) to avoid violent activities and withdraw hartal and blockade and sever ties with Jamaat and Sibir.
President of Gano Forum Dr Kamal Hossain termed police action as unconstitutional.
"You can't protect the constitution by giving unconstitutional order. As per the constitution the 160 million people are the owner of the country. They want to see an effective democracy." He stressed on establishing an effective democracy instead of farcical democracy for the sake social peace.
He said " They country is for all- not for any person or family- a bright future is awaits for the nation. But due to misgovernance this bright changes are fading away". He called upon the 160 million people to be united.
Khalequazzaman threatened to wage people movement against the destructive politics of the two main parties.
ASM Abdur Rab said, "As the Razakars could never be freedom fighter similarly the Awami League never become democratic. The country is now passing through a crisis". He called upon all to be united for the sake of country and democracy.
Sultan Mohammad Mansur said, " The government will sink into the history like the Ayub and Yahya Khan if it fails to hold an election accepted to all through holding national dialogue". He said the country could not run by the ministers and prime minister without vote.
Mujahedul Islam Selim, " The two parties have already made the country's people hostage as they are desperate for power. They don't care about public lives". He called upon the government to immediately withdraw the ban on holding meetings and rallies and returning back the fundamental rights of the people.
Adviser to Nagorik Oikkya ASM Akram and General Secretary of CPB Syed Jafar Ahmed, among others, were present.
