‘Time ripe for new pay scale’
FE Report | Thursday, 11 December 2014
Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Wednesday expressed his concern over possible rise in inflation once the new pay-scale for public servants is announced.
"This is the appropriate time to announce new pay-scale since the rate of inflation is now low," Mr Muhith told newsmen after a meeting with Executive Director (ED) of the World Bank Subhash Chandra Garg at his residence.
He said despite rise in inflation, the government had nothing to do for private sector employees. In this case, the private companies would have to take initiatives to adjust salaries of their employees, he felt.
The minister said the Pay Commission report would be submitted to the ministry after its chairman returns from abroad.
Regarding his meeting with Mr Garg, the minister said issues like budgetary support and progress of the World Bank-funded projects were discussed.
Replying to a query if funding in the Padma Bridge was discussed in the meeting, Mr Muhith said, "We don't talk about this."
