Women's contribution is the highest in Bangladesh's significant development, said Meher Afroz Chumki, state minister for women and children's affairs Thursday.
She also said grassroots women's participation is the most important factor in the country's economic development. About 80 per cent workers are women in agriculture sector, she added.
The state minister said this while inaugurating the 5th national council of Bikashita Nari Network at the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh in the city.
Ms Chumki said agriculture is the prime sector in Bangladesh. So, the government is giving priority to the development of grassroots women, she further said.
Bikashita Nari Network is the forum of nearly 1,000 women organisations, established in 2006, in cooperation with the Hunger Project.
Nearly 1,400 women from rural areas participated in the council.
The council placed nine-point proposal including organising grassroots women for the economic development, combating child marriage, dowry, trafficking and domestic violence against women.
