Arrest, punish Hafizur's killers, Jamaat urges govt
FE REPORT | Monday, 2 March 2026
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has urged the government to arrest and give exemplary punishment to the killers of Hafizur Rahman, a local leader of the party in Jibonnagar upazila under Chuadanga.
Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, in a statement issued on Sunday, said a group of BNP supporters carried out a sudden attack on the victim and chopped him to death after Iftar on February 28. The brutal incident also left several Jamaat activists injured.
"This type of vindictive attack will never be accepted by a civilised society. Political ideological difference and social conflict could never be the cause for taking lives of the people. It is a direct blow on human rights, democracy and the rules of law."
"We call upon the government to arrest the killers immediately and give exemplary punishment. Otherwise, public expectation to get justice will be shattered, and the state will bear the responsibility," he maintained.
Mia Golam Parwar conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul of the victim.
